Modern SEO Tactics
So many webmasters have the whole SEO (search engine optimization) process backwards in their mind. They build a website and then want to SEO it. The correct way to perform SEO should start before you even decide to build a website. It helps you organize and structure your site so that it will naturally rank high in search results for certain keyword search phrases that people are already actively searching for.
Start by finding out what phrases people are typing into search engines that are related to your topic. Here are two free tools that will help you find those related search terms:

This will give you some good ideas for subtopics on your website. Now you need to find out what kind of volume those search terms are getting. Here are two free tools that will help you determine the search volume for these keyword phrases you found:

Choose a handful of the highest volume search phases as subtopics for your site. Make one of those phrases the topic of a blog and install a Wordpress blog, using that search phrase as the name of the subdirectory. You will be writing short articles on this topic frequently and posting them to your blog.
Take the other chosen search phrases and organize them into article hubs on your site. You need 4 or 5 original articles in each hub, each one being on the topic of the hub. Create an article index page for each hub to link the articles from, and name the article index pages after their corresponding targeted search phrase. Here are some places you can hire writers for your articles:

If using a PLR article, meaning that it is not a unique original article that only you will be using, be sure to rewrite the first paragraph in your own words.
Use free directories to build links to your main URL, and use high-PR social bookmarking sites to build links to your article hub pages, using anchor text for your targeted search phrases when you can. After you have a half-dozen or so blog posts you can start pinging the aggregate services (we recommend using pingoat.com) and submitting your new blog posts to the high-PR social media sites (such as Digg, Newsvine, etc.).
Keep adding new content and building new links on a regular basis to both your website pages and your blog posts. With a few months you should be able to conquer all your targeted keywords in the search engines.
